Nestled along the banks of the Cape Fear River across varied and ever-changing terrain, Raven Rock State Park is a haven for outdoor adventurers. It’s a fishing mecca. A network of (literally) breathtaking hikes. A world of inspiring natural beauty and unbridled wildlife. It’s camping and fishing. Exploration and discovery. It is outdoor adventuring at its very finest.

The trails of Raven Rock traverse a diverse variety of terrain, ranging from hardwood forest to river shoreline to rugged and rocky climbs. Some hikes are quite easy and walkable for most skill levels, while others provide much more challenging treks and elevation changes.

There are also seven miles of trails for horseback riding, as well as a 6 mile mountain bike trail.

Paddling the River

The Cape Fear Canoe Trail runs through the heart of the park, providing both tranquil paddling and heart-pounding challenges like Lanier Falls and the Fish Traps. The entire trail spans 56 miles from an access point on US Route 1 at the Deep River bridge. There aren’t any access points within the actual park, but there are several located in the area.

Fishing at Raven Rock Park

There are two prime fishing spots in the Park—the (aptly named) Fish Traps and the mouth of Campbell Creek. Here, anglers tend to have good success hooking largemouth bass, warmouth, bluegill, catfish, redear, and green sunfish.

Camping & Picnicking

For a relaxing lunch, there’s a wide trail leading from the parking lot to a large, shaded picnic area along the south side of the River. Here, there are 27 tables and eight grills, as well as drinking water, restrooms, and a refreshment stand.

For those who want to spend a night or two, Raven Rock Park also has a few campsites, accessible by both hiking/backpacking and paddling.

Events & Programs

The Park also offers several reservable facilities, including an auditorium, classroom, and picnic shelter, to accommodate private parties and events.
